In October 2019, 31,245 foreign nationals were granted the status of permanent residents of Canada. Most of October newcomers came to Canada from India – 8,000 immigrants or 25.6% of the total number. The second-largest source of new PRs was China – 2,640 newcomers or 8.4%. The Philippines were the third biggest country of origin in October – 2,295 immigrants or 7.3%. Syrians were the fourth largest group of new Canadians – 1,130 newcomers or 3.6%. Nigeria became the fifth country of origin of October immigrants – 1,040 or 3.3%. The other countries in the top ten were: The United States of America – 935 (3.0%); Eritrea – 895 (2.9%), Pakistan – 870 (2.8%); South Korea – 570 (1.8%); and the United Kingdom and Overseas Territories – 545 (1.7%).
