Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is one of the popular categories through which you can get permanent residence in Canada. You may qualify for Canadian Experience Class If you have worked, in Canada for at least one year in the last three years. The CEC is aimed to help all temporary skilled workers who have acquired their skills in Canada legally to use their experience for obtaining permanent residency. The time a person spent in Canada working or studying is one of the most important parameters that earn them the eligibility and priority for permanent Canadian visa.

In order to be eligible to apply for CEC you must:


Have at least 1 year of full-time (or equivalent) skilled work experience in Canada

Apply within 3 years of obtaining your skilled work experience

Have had legal status while working, or studying, in Canada;

Meet language requirements in English or French; and

Plan to live outside the province of Quebec.

What is skilled work experience?

Your work experience must be Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Level A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades) on the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC).

It is important to note that some occupations within these categories are not eligible for the program.

Your work experience must be full-time or the equivalent hours part-time. There are limited numbers of applications that are accepted for each occupation and limited occupation number. If you have graduated from, or have completed 2 years of a PhD program in Canada, you may be able to apply as a Federal Skilled Worker. 

The language requirements:

You must provide a proof of language proficiency and it should not be older than a year by the time you apply.
