Canada welcomed 24,725 newcomers in January 2020
According to the official figures by IRCC, in January 2020, Canada welcomed 24,725 permanent residents, 3,835 more compared to December 2019.
Among those new PRs, 9,955 were foreign skilled workers; 5,005 immigrants were nominated by the Provincial Nominee Programs; 445 were business immigrants (including investors, start-uppers, self-employed persons, and other entrepreneurs);
4,480 were sponsored spouses, 1,225 were sponsored parents and grandparents, 375 were sponsored children, and 2,855 were refugees and protected persons. The share of economic class immigrants in January was 62.3% while family class constituted 24.8% of the total.
