Temporary Resident Visa

If you are interested in experiencing Canadian life, but you feel unsure about whether or not you actually want to settle down here, you may still require authorization to enter the country. That is, you may need to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa if you plan to enter and stay in Canada, depending on your circumstances. After obtaining a Temporary Resident Visa, there may be opportunities available to those seeking permanent residence, whether this was originally the plan or not. There are numerous reasons to consider coming to Canada temporarily, and Mansouri Firm has the experience and expertise to assist you toward applying to make this happen.

Temporary Residence Visas are required in Canada for a number of programs including:

  • Study Permits
  • Work Permits
  • Temporary Resident Permits
  • Super Visas

*For more information on these programs, please see the specific pages in our “Services” section.

A Temporary Resident Visa is an official counterfoil document issued by a visa office. It is securely fixed in a person’s passport to show that he or she has met the requirements for entry into Canada as a temporary resident, but it does not guarantee entry to Canada. Entry is a privilege, not a right. But for visitors, temporary workers, and students, a TRV is a necessary document to obtain, and may open up doors to permanent residency, should that be a goal.

If you are in need of assistance with your Temporary Resident Visa application, contact us. Our team of experts can ensure that you understand your options, how long your visa will be valid for, if you can change or extend your visa, or even if there is any chance that you are visa exempt.

The terms of your visa will outline the length of time you are permitted to remain in Canada, and what you are authorized to do here, such as work or study. Our firm will work with you to make sure you understand the consequences of failing to adhere to the obligations connected to your visa, especially the importance of leaving Canada at the end of your stay if you do not intend on changing or extending your status.

We will also prepare you for any meetings with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). As noted, a Temporary Resident Visa is a required document for entry to Canada, but the document itself doesn’t guarantee entry at a port of entry (i.e. airport, land crossing, etc.). You will need to satisfy a border services officer of the CBSA that you can, and will, leave Canada at the end of their authorized stay. We can make sure that you understand what this means, and help prepare you for your meetings with CBSA officers in an honest and thorough manner.
