Qualifying job offer misconceptions

A qualifying job offer may award an applicant at least 50 points and at most 200 points depending on the NOC group. Many foreign nationals outside Canada have a misconception about job offers.

They think that they can claim 50 points in Express Entry if they are able to get a job offer from any Canadian. But this is not the case. They need a certified job offer, for which a Canadian employer needs to apply to Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).

The ESDC assesses the employment for the eligibility criteria before issuing an LMIA. The employer also needs to meet the job
advertisement needs and prove that he is unable to get a local candidate and needs to hire a foreign worker for his business.
