The number of Hong Kong residents immigrating to Canada did not increase

It has been more than half a year since the anti-extradition law amendment movement in Hong Kong, and the situation has yet to calm down.

Some Hong Kong residents have lost confidence in the city and are planning to migrate abroad. The number of permanent residency applications that the Canadian immigration department received from Hong Kong residents was 1,425 from January to October 2019, 1,676 in 2018 and 1,574 in 2017.

In addition, the number of approved immigration applications filed by Hong Kong residents amounted to 1,315 from January to October 2019 and 1,525 in 2018.

One major reason for the above-mentioned situation is that Canada’s threshold immigration requirements are too high for Hong Kong residents, so some may choose to immigrate to countries with lower threshold requirements such as Taiwan and Singapore.
