Top 10 countries of origin of the December 2019’s newcomers

In December 2019, Canada admitted 20,890 foreign nationals who were granted the status of permanent residents of the country.

The biggest part of those newcomers originated from India – 4,905 immigrants (23.48% of the total).

China was back as the second-largest country of origin of newcomers – 1,715 newcomers (8.21%). The Philippines was in third place this month – 1,615 newcomers (7.73%). Nigeria took fourth place with 880 immigrants (4.21%). Pakistan is the place of origin of the fifth largest group of new Canadians – 715 newcomers (3.42%).

The top ten also includes the following countries: United States of America – 670 PRs (3.21%), Eritrea – 470 PRs (2.25%), France – 460 newcomers (2.20%), Iran – 450 immigrants (2.15%), and Syria – 420 (2.01%). In total, in 2019, Canada granted PR to 341,180 immigrants.
